Apple may launch an AI-powered Siri with the iOS 18.3 update early next year.

Apple is anticipated to launch a new and smarter Siri powered by its suite of artificial intelligence features, known as Apple Intelligence, for the iPhone. A recent report suggests that this updated Siri may debut with an earlier version of the iOS 18 update than expected. When released, it is likely to complement the Apple Intelligence features set to roll out with the iOS 18.1 update next month, which will include writing tools and web page summarization.

Apple first showcased its developing Apple Intelligence features at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June. While some features have already been tested in developer and public beta versions, the updated Siri has yet to appear, despite Apple introducing a new user interface. However, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, that may soon change.

In his Power On newsletter, Gurman indicated that the new Siri could arrive sooner than initially anticipated. Apple is likely to release it with the iOS 18.3 update instead of the 18.4 version. The development of this update is expected to wrap up by the end of the year, with a possible launch in January 2025.

However, not all of Siri's features may be launched with iOS 18.3; some are expected to be saved for the iOS 18.4 update, which is scheduled for release in March next year.

Siri Upgrades

One of the key enhancements for Siri is its improved contextual understanding. The voice assistant will be able to comprehend natural language and loosely articulated sentences, allowing it to grasp their underlying meanings through Apple’s AI model. Furthermore, Siri will be integrated with various native Apple apps, enabling it to perform actions within those apps through verbal commands.

With the iOS 18 update, Siri features a new user interface. When activated, the screen illuminates around the edges. Additionally, users can utilize the Type to Siri feature, allowing them to input text prompts alongside voice commands.
